Long-Range Atom–Ion Rydberg Molecule: A Novel Molecular Binding Mechanism

نویسندگان

چکیده

We present a novel binding mechanism where neutral Rydberg atom and an atomic ion form molecular bound state at large internuclear distance. The is based on Stark shifts level crossings which are induced in the due to electric field of ion. At particular distances between ion, potential wells occur can hold atom-ion states. Apart from we describe important properties long-range molecule, such as its lifetime decay paths, vibrational rotational structure, dipole moment. Furthermore, discuss methods how produce detect it. unusual molecule give rise interesting prospects for studies wave packet dynamics engineered energy landscapes.

Shape-resonance-induced long-range molecular Rydberg states

When an excited atomic electron interacts with a neutral perturbing atom or molecule that possesses a shape resonance, it generates a characteristic class of Born–Oppenheimer potential curves that rise with internuclear distance. We document this effect, and predict the existence of a diverse class of stable, strongly bound atom–atom and atom–molecule states that result from this phenomenon. Fo...

Long-range interaction between polar Rydberg atoms

The most attractive and the most repulsive potential-energy curves for interaction between two Rydberg atoms in a broad superposition of internal angular momentum states are studied. The extreme Stark states have the largest dipole moments and provide the dominant contribution to the interaction which is then expressed as a long-range expansion involving the permanent multipole moments Qj of ea...

Photoassociation of long-range nD Rydberg molecules.

We observe long-range homonuclear diatomic nD Rydberg molecules photoassociated out of an ultracold gas of Rb87 atoms for 34≤n≤40. The measured ground-state binding energies of Rb87(nD+5S1/2) molecular states are larger than those of their Rb87(nS+5S1/2) counterparts, which shows the dependence of the molecular bond on the angular momentum of the Rydberg atom. We exhibit the transition of Rb87(...

Ultra-long-range Rydberg molecules exposed to a magnetic field

We investigate the impact of an external magnetic field on ultra-long-range and ultracold Rydberg molecules. The Born–Oppenheimer potential surfaces are analysed and discussed for different values of the magnetic field strength. The magnetic field provides an angular confinement turning a rotational degree of freedom into a vibrational one. We explore the vibrational dynamics and observe a pron...

Creation of polar and nonpolar ultra-long-range rydberg molecules

We predict the existence of a ubiquitous class of long-range molecular Rydberg states, whose Born-Oppenheimer potential curves are oscillatory in nature. These oscillations reflect the nodal structure of the atomic Rydberg state wave functions. The temperature and density of atoms in a Bose-Einstein condensate are particularly favorable for the laser excitation of ultra-long-range vibrational b...
